SDSU Fall 2008 Registration Issue: Digging up the dirt on SDSU, Myth #3 “It’s Easy to get lost”
Myth #3: “It’s easy to get lost.” — TRUE
Getting lost is always a possibility on a campus that’s nearly 300 acres, even if you’re not a freshman. Fortunately, there are various measures that will help you avoid being 30 minutes late.
For one thing, you should have received a poster map of the campus at orientation. Get it out, put it on your wall and use it. It is your new best friend. Or you could visit www.sdsu.edu/map to search for a specific building.
There are also many free-standing map kiosks located on campus, and most buildings have individual maps by their elevators or stairwells that list room numbers and department locations. You can also check out the Information Booth in Aztec Center or ask someone at the library.
The campus now features guideposts that are placed at walkways and point in the direction of popular locations, such as ENS 280 or Love Library.
Classrooms’ numbers aren’t just random; the first number tells you what floor of the building the classroom is on. SH 230 is on the second floor, SH 341 is on the third.
Some buildings, such as Adam’s Humanities, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences buildings are particularly flustering, so give yourself 10 to 15 minutes more than you normally would. College Square (abbreviated CSQ) isn’t actually on campus, it’s on the second floor of the Starbucks building across from the 7-Eleven by the dorms, and worse, it doesn’t show up on the electronic map.
In general, it’s a good idea to scope out where you need to go and how long you need to get there by visiting all your classrooms, in order, before the first day of classes. That prevents you from wandering around for hours.
